Folders (Beta)
Folders let you organize Finout objects such as dashboards, virtual tags, financial plans, and data explorer, into a shared structure that appears consistently across every list in the platform. A folder created in one list is immediately available in all others.
How folders work
Folders in Finout are cross-object — they are not tied to any single feature area. Objects that have not been assigned to a folder appear in an unassigned state in each list. You can assign them to a folder at any time using bulk selection or by moving a single object to a folder.
Folder permissions
Folder actions are governed by Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). By default, Admin role have all folder permissions.
Go to Permissions List to view the available folders permissions.
View folders in a list
Every supported object list includes a Folder column and a folder filter.
To filter a list by folder:
In Finout, navigate to the relevant list (for example, Dashboards).
In the folder filter, select a folder.

The list updates to show only objects in that folder.

To view all objects regardless of folder, clear the folder filter.
Create a folder
You can create a folder directly from any supported list. Folders created in one list are immediately available across all object types.
To create a folder:
In Finout, navigate to any supported list.
Click the folders filter, and then click + New Folder.

Enter a name for the folder and click "Create folder".
The folder is created and immediately appears across all supported lists.
Move objects to a folder
You can move objects to a folder in two ways: one at a time using the object menu, or in bulk using checkboxes.
To move a single object:
In Finout, navigate to the relevant list.
Hover over the object and click its options menu.

Select Move to folder. A folder picker appears.

Select the destination folder and confirm. The object is moved. If it was already in a folder, it is moved to the new one.
To move multiple objects:
In Finout, navigate to the relevant list.
Select one or more objects using the checkboxes. A bulk action bar appears at the bottom of the list.

Click Move to folder. A folder picker appears.

Select the destination folder and click Move. The selected objects are moved. If an object was already in a folder, it is moved to the new one.

Note: Moving objects from a list only affects the object type shown in that list. Moving items in the Dashboards list does not affect virtual tags or financial plans.
Remove objects from a folder
You can remove one or more objects from a folder. Removed objects return to an unassigned state and remain visible in their list.
To remove objects from a folder:
In Finout, navigate to the list containing the objects you want to remove (for example, Dashboards).
Select one or more objects. A bulk action bar appears at the bottom of the list.
Click Move to folder. The folder picker appears.
Click Remove from folder.

The selected objects are removed from their folder and returned to an unassigned state.
Rename a folder
To rename a folder:
In Finout, navigate to any supported list.
Click the folders filter, and then locate the options menu of the folder you want to rename.
Click the folder options icon and select Rename.

Enter the new name and click "Rename folder".

The folder is renamed across all supported lists immediately.
Delete a folder
Deleting a folder does not delete the objects inside it. All objects in the folder move to an unassigned state and remain visible in their respective lists.
To delete a folder:
In Finout, navigate to any supported list.
In the folder filter, locate the options menu of the folder you want to delete.
Click the folder options icon and select Delete.

Confirm the deletion. The folder is removed. All objects that were in it are moved to an unassigned state.
FAQs
In which lists are folders supported?
Folders are supported in the following lists:
Dashboards
Virtual Tags
Reports
Manage Anomalies
Telemetries
Governance Policies
Data Explorers
Financial Plans
Is there a single place to see all objects in a folder across every object type?
Not currently. Folders are visible within each object list individually — for example, you can filter the Dashboards list by folder, or the Virtual Tags list by folder, but there is no unified cross-object view that shows all items in a folder at once.
Can all users create folders and move objects into them?
Folder actions are permission-controlled. A user needs permissions to create, edit or delete folders and to move objects to folders. By default, Admin roles have all folder permissions. Contact your account admin to request access if these actions are unavailable to you.
If I create a folder from the Dashboards list, does it also appear in Virtual Tags?
Yes. Folders are shared across the platform. A folder created anywhere — whether from the Dashboards list, Virtual Tags, Financial Plans, or Data Explorer — is immediately available in all supported lists.
What happens to a folder's objects if the folder is deleted?
The objects are not deleted. They move to an unassigned state and continue to appear in their respective lists outside of any folder.
Can I nest folders inside other folders?
Nested folders are not supported at this time. All folders exist at a single level.
Can I rename a folder?
Yes, if you have a permission to edit folders.
