# Finding Dimensions \[Beta]

Configure which dimensions appear on your account's findings, so you can group, filter, and view findings using the context that matters to your team — team, environment, or whatever your account already tracks.

{% hint style="info" %}

* To be able to use the findings dimensions and the agentic product, AI features should be enabled in your account. See AI [Opt-In](https://docs.finout.io/cross-platform-features/list-of-cross-platform-features/ai-in-finout/ai-opt-in).
* Dimensions can be configured by admins or by users with the relevant permission. Go [here](https://docs.finout.io/settings/role-based-access-control-rbac/role-permissions) to see more details. &#x20;
* Dimensions are configured once per account, not per agent. The configuration applies to every finding.
  {% endhint %}

### Configure dimensions

1. **Navigate** to **Settings > Finding Dimensions**.

2. **Default dimensions -** Every account has three default dimensions, defined by Finout, saved automatically regardless of what you configure:

* Finout Virtual Tags > FOCUS > Resource id
* Finout Virtual Tags > FOCUS > Region
* Finout Virtual Tags > FOCUS > Billing account id

These always appear on every finding. They count toward your account's dimension limit, alongside anything you add.<br>

3. Under **Custom dimensions**, **click Select dimensions** and choose from your account's existing dimensions, up to your account's limit (default 10).&#x20;

4. Changes save automatically as you make them and applies to findings starting the next daily agent run.

{% hint style="info" %}
Changes can take up to 24 hours to apply. Findings already marked **Fixed** or **Dismissed** aren't affected by a configuration change — but findings still **Open** or **In Progress** are, since they reflect the resource's current state.
{% endhint %}

### Where dimensions show up

**On the Findings List**, you can group and filter by any configured dimension — default or custom.

**On a single finding page**, the dimensions appear under the "Dimensions" section in the finding page.

<figure><img src="https://3858159242-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FWqjB2puKXPDR7L86FX2e%2Fuploads%2F95TFEQio7HUboukF5Sd5%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=4b5bb7a9-65bb-4faa-abb6-904b165c269c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Dimensions you don't select as custom dimensions can't be used to filter or group findingS, and won't appear in an finding's Dimensions section.

### FAQs

**Do I need to configure anything to use dimensions on findings?** The default dimensions defined by Finout (Resource id, Region, Billing account id) are always present. Configuration is only needed if you want additional dimensions beyond the defaults.

**What happens to an finding's dimension data if I change the configuration later?** Configuration changes can take up to 24 hours to apply. Once applied, they affect findings detected going forward, as well as any existing finding still **Open** or **In Progress**. Findings already marked **Fixed** or **Dismissed** keep the dimension data they had at that point and aren't updated retroactively.

**Can I configure different dimensions for findings created by different agents?** No — dimension configuration is account-wide and applies to every finding.&#x20;

**Why is one of my configured dimensions disabled?** It was likely updated to include reallocation after you selected it — reallocated virtual tags can't be used as finding dimensions.&#x20;

**What happens if a resource has more than one value for a dimension?** All of its values are shown in the finding page, rather than just one.

**What do I see on an finding if no custom dimensions are configured?** Just the default dimensions defined by Finout.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.finout.io/settings/finding-dimensions-beta.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
