Azure Scans
This feature is currently in Alpha.
Finout continuously retrieves Azure optimization recommendations directly from Azure Advisor and surfaces them in CostGuard once onboarding is complete.
These recommendations are automatically enriched with billing information, providing you with deeper visibility into each resource’s tags, metadata, and context. Finout retrieves optimization recommendations directly from the cloud and enriches them with billing and semantic data to provide additional context about each resource, such as its tags and associated metadata. This enrichment enables users to better understand each recommendation, allowing for direct filtering and analysis within CostGuard and CostGuard widgets.
The following sections describe and provide a list of idle and rightsizing Azure scans available in CostGuard.
Prerequisite:
- Complete Azure onboarding to authorize Finout’s access to Azure Advisor.
Idle
Almost every organization has resources that were provisioned but are no longer in use. Forgetting to switch off these Idle resources eats away at your tech budget.

Rightsizing
Resources in use may be underutilized and exceed your current workload performance and capacity requirements. Rightsizing means you can downsize these resources without compromising your service levels.

FAQs
Do Finout's Data Access controls apply to Azure Native recommendations?
Data Access Controls currently do not apply to Azure Native recommendations, but support is coming soon. When Data Access is enabled in an account, all users can view Azure Advisor recommendations in CostGuard, regardless of their specific data access permissions. For example, a user with access only to AWS data will still see Azure Native recommendations in CostGuard.
Why do some Azure Advisor recommendations show “N/A” under Potential Savings?
Azure Advisor does not provide savings values for certain recommendation types. For these recommendations, Finout displays “N/A” in the Potential Savings field.
We’re actively exploring how FinOps practitioners would ideally like these savings to be estimated based on the cost data available in Finout and will continue to enhance this functionality over time.

Why can’t I filter certain Azure Advisor recommendations in CostGuard?
Recommendations for resources that are provided exclusively by Azure Advisor but are not included in Azure billing data appear in CostGuard for visibility, but cannot be filtered. These recommendations are displayed in CostGuard, but filter functionality is not available for them.
Why don’t the Cost Waste Percentage and Scanned Cost value appear for Azure Native recommendations in the CostGuard widget table?
The Cost Waste Percentage and Scanned Cost are not supported for Azure Native recommendations. As a result, this value does not appear in the CostGuard widget. We’re actively exploring how FinOps practitioners would ideally like the Cost Waste Percentage and Scanned Cost to be calculated using Finout’s available cost data and will continue refining this functionality over time.

Are commitment scans supported?
Commitment scans are not currently supported in CostGuard and will be available soon.
